Dr. Scott Solomon, MD | Harvard Medical School

Scott D. Solomon, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and Director of Noninvasive Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. In addition, he is Director of the Echocardiography Core Laboratory at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Co-Directs the Clinical Trials Endpoints Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is a graduate of Williams College and Harvard Medical School, and received training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.      

Dr. Solomon’s research interests have focused on changes in ventricular structure and function following myocardial infarction, modifiers of risk and influences of outcome in patients following myocardial infarction and with chronic heart failure, and cardiovascular safety of non-cardiovascular therapies. Dr. Solomon’s core echocardiography laboratory has explored the interface between imaging and outcome in clinical trials, including the SAVE, HEART, VALIANT, OVERTURE, MADIT-CRT, ALOFT, ALLAY, VALIDD, and other trials. Dr. Solomon has served or is serving as Chair of the Endpoints Committees of numerous clinical trials, including CHARM, VALIANT, TREAT, ARISE, MAGIC, and TOPCAT. Dr. Solomon leads the National Cancer Institute/ National Institutes of Health initiated cardiovascular review of celecoxib across a number of non-cardiovascular clinical trials. Dr. Solomon served as Study Chair for the Valsartan in Diastolic Dysfunction (VALIDD) trial, the Aliskiren in Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (ALLAY) trial and the EXforge Evaluation of Diastolic Function (EXCEED) trial. 

Dr. Solomon has authored or coauthored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, and has published the textbook, “Essential Echocardiography.” He directs the Harvard Medical School Cardiology clerkship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is an Associate Editor of Circulation, and is a member of the Scientific Program Committee for the American College of Cardiology.
