Professor Becher is a Consultant Cardiologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK where he also directs the Echocardiography Laboratory. He also holds the Title of Professor of Cardiac Ultrasound, at Oxford University. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Heidelberg, Germany. After completing his Cardiology Training, he joined the Faculty at the University of Bonn, holding Clinical Appointments as Professor and Director of Echocardiography and Invasive Cardiology, before moving to Oxford.
His Leadership positions in the Cardiology community include Chairmanship of the working group "Cardiovascular Ultrasound" of the German Society of Cardiology, Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of the UK, member of the writing committee on ‘Contrast Echocardiography’ of the American Society of Echocardiography, the British Society of Echocardiography Examiner group, as well as Associate Editorship of the Journal Echocardiography.
Professor Becher is an acknowledged expert in Echocardiography, including stress echocardiography, 3D Echocardiography and the use of ultrasound contrast. His International reputation derives from numerous clinical studies evaluating echocardiography and other cardiac imaging modalities in the fields of left ventricular opacification, myocardial perfusion echocardiography (for which he is an acknowledged expert reader), infective endocarditis, and left ventricular thrombus. His expertise in the risk-benefit of contrast agents has been acknowledged by EMEA.
He has authored 118 manuscripts and 20 book chapters, including the Handbook of Contrast Echocardiography (the first textbook of contrast echocardiography) and the Handbook of Echocardiography. Dr. Becher provides a unique European perspective on Clinical trials that involve Echocardiography.
